Where Are They From?

SPC's Troll-caught Coho Salmon are harvested throughout Southeast Alaska.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:

Coho Salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) is a medium sized Wild Salmon.  Coho are also called Silver Salmon.  Coho Salmon that are actively feeding and growing in the open ocean have bright silvery sides, thick firm muscles and fat bellies.  Coho Salmon harvested at this time will have the best quality, highest fat content and higher Omega-3 levels, and be most flavorful. 
 
Frozen specifications:  Dressed (gutted), head-off (H&G) size grades are 9#/Up, 6/9#, 4/6#, and 2/4#.  Head-on available upon request.  Fillet yield 72-80%.  Steak yield 85-90%.  Frozen fillets and portions are also available.  Recommended holding temperature for maximum shelf life is -10°F. 
 
Fresh specifications:  Dressed (gutted), head-on size grades are 10#/Up, 7/10#, and Under/7#.  Fillet yields 65-72%.  Steak yields 75-80%.  Recommended holding temperature for maximum shelf life is 32°F. 
 
Frozen-At-Sea SPC Troll Coho Salmon
Frozen-At-Sea Troll Coho Salmon are the highest quality wild frozen salmon available.  SPC has a special group of fishermen that freeze their Troll-caught Salmon on-board their specially equipped fishing vessels within hours of catching the salmon.  We have perfected on-board handling, sanitation and rapid freezing techniques to provide our customers with a frozen Troll Coho Salmon that is unsurpassed in quality.  SPC’s Frozen-At-Sea technology locks in the quality of these fish and makes them “fresher than fresh”.
 
When are SPC Troll Coho Salmon Available?
The Alaska Summer Coho Salmon season generally opens the beginning of July and closes towards the end of September.  SPC Fresh-Frozen Coho Salmon and Frozen-At-Sea Coho Salmon are available throughout the year.
